What is Wai Kroo?

Wai Kroo means “paying respect to the teacher.” It’s an ancient Thai ritual performed annually by Sak Yant masters and their disciples.

The ceremony honors the lineage of teachers and spiritual guides, invoking blessings and protection for practitioners.

It often includes chanting sacred mantras, offering banana leaf trays, and placing Ruesi masks (hermit sage masks) on participants’ heads for spiritual empowerment. 

Ajarn Noo’s Wai Kroo is held at his Samnak Sak Yant (Shrine/Temple)

The event includes:

Sacred offerings: flowers, incense, candles arranged on banana leaves.

Krob Kroo ritual: laying the Ruesi mask on disciples’ heads for protection.

Khong Khuen phenomenon: some participants enter a trance state, believed to be spirits manifesting during the blessing.
