Sak Yant Designs and Meanings

Yant tattoos, also known as Sak Yant or Yantra tattoos, are a form of traditional tattooing in Thailand. These tattoos often incorporate sacred geometric designs, ancient symbols, and scriptural texts believed to offer protection, good fortune, and other spiritual benefits. Here are some common Yant designs:

These are just a few examples of the many Yant designs available. Each design carries its own unique symbolism and significance, and individuals often choose designs based on their personal beliefs, desires, and intentions. If you’re interested in getting a Yant tattoo, it’s important to do thorough research.

Images include a number of very old designs and we will repair them over time. The Ajarn Masters just use them for outline and then they do free hand and their own Yants. At this temple they are true masters and make the tattoo better than the design drawings.

Hah Taew 5 Lines Sak Yant Designs

Hah Taew 5 lines Sak Yant Thai Tattoo is trendy, representing white magical spells: There are many different ones, but the meaning is the same. What I mean about this, is that a true master has his own Hah Taew Kata yants, 5 Lines. I have seen many different ones but have similar meanings. They do their own Chant and put the following white magic in them.

Below, 2 examples

The first row – will protect and cleanse your home and clear it of unwanted souls.

The second row – will repel bad karma and bad fortune.

The third row – will protect you against black magic and any kind of curse.

The fourth row – will give you success, fortune, and luck in upcoming ventures.

The fifth row – will energize your personality and enhance your appeal to the opposite sex.

Yant Ha Taew – is designed to improve your Karma and Destiny, gaining power from the four elements, fire, water, air, and earth.

Popular with both men and women.

Signify different areas of good fortune and health. This Yant is usually on the shoulder or the base of the neck but can be put anywhere above the waist.

Buddha’s grace, Protection, Luck, Good Fortune, Kindness, Popularity, Attractiveness.

The Hah Taew was immortalized forever when the actress, Angelina Jolie got it tattooed on her back. However, the Hah Taew has been traditionally very popular with men too.

The name when translated to English is “5 lines”.

This popular design is said to be the first Sak Yant tattoo a disciple should acquire.

It has a strong spiritual meaning and encompasses all aspects of a person’s life.

Each vertical line relates to a different area of one’s life and represents:

  • 1st row: This avoids any type of unjust punishment and will also lean in your favour if there are any grey areas. It also represents the cleansing of negative spirits and protects the place where you live.
  • 2nd row: Signifies the reversal and protection against any bad horoscope constellations including bad luck.
  • 3rd Row: Viewed as protection against any types of black magic as well as preventing someone from putting a curse on you.
  • 4th row: This row works to energize good luck, success & fortune in any future ambitions and your lifestyle.
  • 5th row: As well as boosting the 4th row this final row works to enhance your charisma & attraction.

Yant Ha Taew is designed to improve your karma and destiny, gaining its power from the four elements, fire, water, air, and earth.

Popular in Thailand with both men and women, the five lines signify different areas of good fortune and health and is commonly worn on the shoulder or the base of the neck.

Rahu Moon God Sak Yant Designs

Sak Yant Tattoo, Phra Rahu Former Demon God of Darkness Yant

Rahu Moon God Thai Tattoo Sak Yant 1
Rahu Moon God Thai Tattoo Sak Yant 2

Sak Yant Tattoo, Phra Rahu was formerly a Demon God who the Thais believe took the form of a serpent, these days at temples he takes a more demonic human form. Phra Rahu is a somewhat fearsome deity, who is worshiped to prevent harm coming to the bearer of gifts however he has semi-demonic qualities that cause him to be both revered and feared as a bringer of “darkness” – he swallows the sun and moon, after all.  But in Thailand, he can also be auspicious in that he also eats darkness and bad luck, so the way to ward off the bad luck that Rahu brings when he’s trying to eat the sun or moon, you can either try to scare him off (light fireworks, make loud noises) or you can placate him (he prefers black offerings, like black grapes, black jelly, black coffee, black beans, etc.)  He’s generally the master of somewhat nefarious occupations: pimps, cheaters, deceivers, drug dealers, anyone dealing in immoral acts… bad mojo, basically.  But government officials and white-collar types will give offerings to Rahu and pray to him in order to get on his “good side” and ward off the negativity of persons who might be in the aforementioned group of backstabbers and saboteurs.
